‘This is a time to be slow…’

A friend sent this poem to me and I have found myself passing it on to other friends.

I can think of a few times when speed really matters. But not many. The danger is that speed seems to matter too much all of the time.

One of the worst feelings is to feel chased by time. It’s going by so fast you don’t see or appreciate anything.

When you notice that feeling maybe it’s time to think about it being OK to slow down.

It might help if you accept that some things do just take time. You can’t hurry them. They have their own rhythm.

So, even though you might not be able to see results as fast as you want, be patient and believe that sincere effort always pays off in time. It might not be exactly the reward you thought you’d get but a reward will be there if you are open to it.

Everything I post is something I’ve found useful, helpful, enjoyable. Sometimes in really big lasting ways and sometimes just in little passing ways. The thing is you never know. Fortunately I have a good memory so when I need to I can rummage around in my head for things to help. That’s the spirit my posts are written in. I particularly enjoy passing on things that have been passed on to me by friends.

Here’s the poem my friend sent.

This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.
Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light.
If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.
