How Stoan Method works

Whatever your circumstances and wherever you’re starting from, Stoan Method is a 4 step framework to help you think and get clearer about the possibilities for you.

Stoan Method helps you see your life from a new perspective—one you may not have considered before. It then asks you questions about what you see, and your answers become signposts guiding you forward.

No matter your circumstances or starting point, the Stoan Method provides a framework to help you think clearly and explore new possibilities.

Before each session, I send you the questions. There are four sessions—typically one per week, though we can do two per week if that suits you better. Each session has a different theme. Six months later, we meet again for a reflective fifth session—completely supportive and non-judgmental—to check in on your progress.

You don’t need to send me your written answers; we’ll discuss them during our video calls. But writing is important. Keep your responses, whether digitally or on paper. You’ll capture insights that may become valuable to you in the future.

I still have mine from nearly 30 years ago. I’m not a hoarder—honest! But I knew I was uncovering important truths I’d want to remember. I didn’t realize just how significant some of them were until years later. When that happens, it creates a deep sense of trust in your own journey.

Where it comes

It’s based on researched backed thinking about making and managing change more comfortably.

It all started in Manchester!

That’s where I first encountered this way of thinking.

Two counsellors and trainers, Celia Hindmarch and Veronica Morrell, ran an experimental weekend course called Women in Transition. It was cutting-edge, research-backed thinking about making and managing change more comfortably.

The weekend was April 24th–25th, 1993. It doesn’t feel that long ago to me—I remember the exact dates because it was my birthday weekend.

Over the years, I used these techniques with friends and colleagues, both in and out of work. Then, while running a group in 2015, I had a glorious "I should be doing this" moment—and the Stoan Method was born.

From there, I developed, tested, and refined the method to make it accessible and affordable.

Life coaches use similar techniques—often over a longer, more expensive coaching relationship—but my priority is different. I focus on sharing these powerful tools quickly, giving you fast insights so you can start making meaningful changes right away.
